It has been shown to inhibit the replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in vitro. It binds to the viral DNA and inhibits DNA synthesis. This inhibition prevents the production of new viral DNA and stops viral replication. It has been shown to inhibit enzyme activities in both human skin cells and leukemia cells, which may be due to its ability to act as a substrate for various enzymes. It is also an effective inhibitor of cellular protein synthesis. |
